ARTISTS STATEMENT

Having worked from 1995 as a graphic designer and illustrator, I have recently begun to find painting privately a great release from commercial constraints. I always start with no aim or 'idea'. I paint layers over layers until a shape or theme seems to emerge 'on its own'. The resulting image is always unexpected. I feel then that, having dropped any critical 'guidance', I am relying more on my unconscious faculties, which are resistant to any exterior control or 'brief'.
